Oregon doesn’t recognize Columbus Day 2018, just because of holiday nor a commemoration; colleges and public offices stay open. A lot of other countries have eliminated it as a paid holiday for government employees while still preserving it as a day of appreciation or even a legal holiday for some other purposes. These include California and Texas.
South Dakota observes the day as an official state holiday called”Native American Day” instead of Columbus Day.
